聯合國兒童基金會最新報告顯示，未來十年將有3000萬女童受割禮摧殘。在亞洲、非洲、中東等地區，因為伊斯蘭教、基督教信仰，或受傳統習俗束縛，有許多女性飽受割禮之苦。除了行割禮過程中的痛楚，她們還要面臨行房時產生的不適與生育期間的風險。雖然狀況已稍有改善，但仍有很多女性因社會壓力不得不遵循傳統禮教陋習。

女性割禮一般存在於傳統伊斯蘭教、基督教與許多非洲部落，過程中會切除女童陰蒂或將陰唇縫合，象徵貞潔與女性之美，同時也促進夫妻關係。根據聯合國兒童基金會（UNICEF）統計，目前全世界有1億2千5百萬名女性受過割禮，未來一年估計還有3000萬名女孩將要忍受同樣的折磨。

雖然許多國際團體正努力改善此陋習，但目前仍有許多國家，因宗教或傳統因素繼續進行割禮儀式。過去20年來，在亞洲、非洲、中東共29個國家皆有女性行割禮的傳統，在許多非洲國家如幾內亞、吉布地和埃及，15至19歲女童行割禮的比例都高達90%以上，其中在索馬利亞更是高達98%。

UNICEF最新的報告顯示，女性接受割禮的比例有稍微下降，在29國中已有近半數國家減少割禮儀式。以埃及為例，相較於40歲女性行過割禮的比例為96%，年約15至19歲的年輕女孩行割禮的比例下降到81%。另外，肯亞及中非共和國則是割禮習俗比例減少最多的國家。

其中原因除了國際與各國人權團體的努力，女性也開始意識到自身地位與割禮帶來的風險，並質疑她們的下一代是否要面臨一樣的處境。據聯合國調查，有許多母親都反對讓她們的女兒接受割禮，甚至在某些國家，如幾內亞、獅子山共和國和查德，有更多男性希望能廢止這樣的習俗。

女性行割禮後將無法享受性生活，在性行為與生產的過程中也都有可能喪命，「她們知道割禮可能喪命，但礙於社會與禮教壓力，卻還是不得不進行割禮。」UNICEF資深兒童研究員法蘭西斯卡‧莫妮堤表示，有許多女性行割禮是為了獲得社會認同。

此句堪稱簡易。對你而言，唯一字彙可能是overjoyed。但是你如果知道joy是「高興、歡愉」，而字首「over-」有「超過、過度」之意的話，你應該不難猜出overjoy是比高興更超出的「狂喜、欣喜萬分」。arrival是arrive的名詞，詞類變化要在平常閱讀的時候即稍加注意。

第二句話他說：「對威廉與凱特而言，這是一個極為特別的時刻，而我們都為他們生下的男嬰而非常高興。」

句中的incredibly是林書豪爆紅時代的Linsanity與Lincredible兩字之一incredible的副詞，它原本是「難以置信地」，但衍申為「極為、非常、很」。thrill是動詞的「興奮、激動」。值得一提的是，thrill也可以指激動到「緊張、毛骨悚然」，而常看到的thriller是指「恐怖電影（小說）」或是刺激到毛孔收縮的「驚險小說、電影」。

第三句話他說：「就像最近幾個月無數和藹可親的人所告訴我的，升格為祖父母對任何人而言，都是獨特的；所以我非常高興且驕傲的第一次做爺爺，而我們熱切期望在最快的未來看到寶寶。」

這雖是一個長句，但它只不過是由三個連接詞as、so、and連接四個短句的長句：

句1：Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life.
句2：Countless kind people have told me in recent months.
句3：I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time.
句4：We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.

句中的unique（獨特的）、enormously（巨大地、非常地）、與look forward to + Ving（期望、期盼）都是多益測驗的重要字。

【綜合報導】台東縣東河鄉出現狂犬病毒鼬獾咬傷民眾後，各地人心惶惶，昨天通報多起動物咬人、死亡案例。台東有家犬咬果子狸後攻擊飼主，獸醫評估這隻狗有染狂犬病風險，已將其安樂死檢驗，飼主也緊急接種疫苗；苗栗有民眾與消防員遭雪貂咬傷、新北市石碇山區則有鼬獾死亡案例。農委會強調，除先前證實四隻鼬獾染狂犬病毒外，無其他動物染病，不過將首度為三萬兩千隻流浪犬貓打疫苗，加強防疫。

【陳郁仁／台北報導】西班牙一列從首都馬德里開往加利西亞港口的特快車脫軌，造成60人死亡、20多人受傷、2人昏迷，是西班牙史上最嚴重火車意外。我外交部歐洲司司長張銘忠說，據我駐西班牙代表處回報，當地警方表示車上沒有亞洲乘客，且國人一般赴西班牙旅行，除散客和學生比較會搭火車外，大部份遊客跟團都搭遊覽車，所以意外中並無國人。
