美日韓三國10月初舉行海上聯合軍演，隸屬於美國海軍第七艦隊的「喬治華盛頓號」航空母艦戰鬥群也參與其中。
根據韓聯社報導，本次美日韓聯合軍演將持續到10月3日，演習項目包括海上緊急狀況演練和飛彈偵測。美方派出9.7萬噸的「喬治華盛頓號」(USS George Washington，CVN 73)航艦、飛彈巡洋艦、驅逐艦等參加演習。
南韓海軍與日本海上自衛隊，也都各自派出所屬的神盾級飛彈驅逐艦參加演習。
3日演習結束後，「喬治華盛頓號」將駛入釜山港，艦上美國海軍官兵將於4至7日與韓國海軍軍官進行交流，參加文化體驗和志工活動。7日離開釜山之後，將與南韓海軍在黃海(韓方稱東海)舉行3天的聯合軍演，預料將再度引發北韓方面的抗議。
喬治華盛頓號為美國海軍建造的第6艘尼米茲級(Nimitz Class)航艦，以美國國父喬治華盛頓命名。喬治華盛頓號1986年動工、1990年下水、1992年服役。
喬治華盛頓號以日本橫須賀海軍基地為母港，是史上第一艘駐紮於日本境內的核子動力艦艇。〔圖／美國海軍〕
