老虎隊追平系列賽，要派Justin Verlander投關鍵第5戰，把問題拋給運動家隊：要由Bartolo Colon披掛上陣、還是改推Sonny Gray？
「我還沒決定。」運動家隊總教練Bob Melvin說。不過，美國時間9日，運動家隊在主場練習時，應該就會公布先發人選。
Colon是這個系列賽第一戰先發，投6局失3分，優質先發但吞敗。Gray則是第二戰先發，8局被敲4安、9次三振、2保送，沒有失分，無關勝敗。紀錄上來看，運動家隊派Gray比較有贏面，而且Colon自2003年以來，沒贏過老虎隊。
「雙先發」模式，也是選項之一。「那場比賽一翻兩瞪眼，」外野手Josh Reddick說，「贏了繼續打，輸了就回家，不能保留。所以也許兩張王牌都會上。」
後援投手Sean Doolittle認為，派哪一位投手先發，都很有利。「無論派誰上場，我都覺得，在主場就是優勢，」Doolittle說，「這個系列賽，我們每位先發投手的表現都很棒，在家鄉父老面前出賽，感覺就是棒。」 (接下一頁)
