他舉了很多自己親身的經歷。從他祖父開始，他祖父設計了一台機器，申請了專利，最後量產走向市場。這一切是十分幸運的，因為那時候大部分人會在漫長的過程中遭遇失敗。而現在則不一樣，用 3D 印表機和電腦，按一下按鍵就可以製造自己的產品，或者通過網路找製造商，把 3D 模型發過去，對方把實物發過來。
數位化製造的一大變化，就是可以滿足個性化的製造需求，這和傳統大量化生產完全不一樣。
安德森從《連線》辭職後，創辦了一家名叫 3D Robotics 的公司，現在在做空中機器人，以及網路社群 DIY Drones 的發展。他發表的新書《創客·新工業革命》，正是對新的製造模式進行大力宣傳，他極其看好 3D 列印在這一變革中扮演的角色
安德森如今是 5 個孩子的父親，他十分鼓勵給孩子們使用 3D 印表機，並認為孩子們不是在消費，而是創造。他的孩子會使用 iPad 的軟體，繪製電影中的角色，然後上色，更改尺寸，列印出來。5 年以前，他和孩子們是使用樂高堆玩具，如今則是 3D 印表機，玩具公司需要對此焦慮了。
其實 3D Robotics 公司最早也是從孩子玩 3D 印表機而來，4 年前的一個 17 歲的孩子 Judy，安德森會把自己的一些小部件交給他焊接，隨後他擁有了自己的小型工坊，再到更大的工作室。安德森也參與進來，如今他們擁有兩個大的廠房。他創立的社區 DIY Drones 已經有 4 萬個註冊用戶，總計 200 萬次點擊量。
事實上，現在很多初創公司、設計師都在使用 3D 列印，KickStarter 上很多項目都在用 3D 列印來展示的。它給了少數人低成本、高效率的製造硬體的機會，這和當年矽谷的車庫文化十分類似。
在提問環節，一個十分尖銳的問題拋了過去：如何看待郭台銘對於 3D 列印無法實現規模商業化的言論？安德森認為郭台銘的觀點有些狹隘，3D 列印並不是做規模製造的，而是一個做模型的技術。就像富士康的工廠使用鐳射切割機，而 3D 列印使用三維掃描器。3D 列印是給普通人用，就好比網路，大量的業餘人士進入的話，本質就發生了變化。

當XL1概念車現身時，許多人的焦點被它所擁有的111.1km/L超驚人平均油耗表現給吸引，正當現行車款只有XL1的1/10甚至1/20時，這種亮眼的節能數據確實可以讓更多人想要購買這款車。可惜的是，VW只少量生產2500輛XL1而以，且皆以租賃形式來供消費者體驗，但XL1上所擁有的技術已經讓VW另有打算。
