在一片「加油」、「縣長辛苦了」、「別灰心」的聲音中，因大埔強拆事件而飽受批評的苗栗縣長劉政鴻，22日在縣議員、後龍民代與鄉親的鼓勵與抱屈聲中，終於忍不住哽咽落淚，他強調自己問心無愧，絕不會被打倒，會用政績報答大家。
劉政鴻因縣府強制拆除大埔拒遷戶，引發民間團體與群眾全國性的激烈抗爭，也持續遭到媒體的強力檢視與批判。但苗栗縣多數民代、在地民眾卻持續對縣府的作為表達支持。
從縣議會多數議員北上召開記者會挺縣府拆除大埔，到今日的後龍鎮長鄭家定、後龍鎮民代表會主席朱秋隆、副主席陳國忠及縣議員林寶珠、李文斌等人，在中午時也率同在地里長、鄉親20餘人前往縣府為劉政鴻打氣。
支持者認為大埔事件已被操弄成政治迫害，劉政鴻也因此受到污衊屈辱。劉政鴻在眾人的鼓勵聲中頻頻雙手合十表達感謝，並當場紅了眼眶，語帶哽咽，並拿衛生擦拭眼淚。
劉政鴻說，自己擔任縣長7年多，施政理念都秉持老縣長前輩的3句話，那就「留建設給地方、留名聲給自己、留道德給子孫」，他強調自己一直問心無愧，「沒想到在任期最後一年半會遭到這麼大的打擊」。
劉政鴻強調，他從政近40年、進入苗栗縣政府也7年多，從未掉過眼淚，看到鄉親現身力挺，讓他很感動；同時，他絕不會被擊倒，會用政績報答大家。
